Diving in Qatar
The popular diving site Old Club Reef in Messaid is located near the end of the road between the Q-Chem perimeter fence and the Sealine Beach Resort.
This is a favourite dive spot amongst many local people and features an artificial reef made up of several vehicles, school buses, a pickup truck and some small boats, as well as several piles of pipes and water tanks.
This shore diving location has an easy entry and its depths are from about 14-16 metres. Grouper are seen regularly, as are blue angel fish (who have a great love of bananas!) and other small local fish. Occasionally, barracuda will appear to add some excitement.
New Club Reef is a similar diving site, with a closer drop off from shore. It is located near the sand dunes just beyond the Sealine Resort. There are fewer fish in this area; however, kingfish have been sighted at times. It is advisable to use a vehicle with 4 wheel drive to reach this site.
The Inland Sea is also a great place for diving. It is located at Udaid; about 20 minutes drive through the dunes from the Sealine Resort and in sight of the Saudi Arabian coastline. A sheltered area with some small reefs, it is a prime spot for an all-day outing and supports an abundance of fish.
Al-Sharqi is a great spot for wreck diving. Located near Halool Island, it features a sunken metal-built wreck. It is as deep as 22 metres in some parts with the wreck reaching up to just short of the surface.
Additionally, some parts of the wreck are suitable for penetration dives. Around the wreck, there are a lot of local fish as well as the occasional grouper and clown fish.
